Natural Hair Banding Method

Hey Hey!

I have used the banding method lately to stretch and dry my hair. I love it! My curls are smoother (provided I do not separate too much and cause frizz), the length of my hair is longer and I found that my halo braid is so much easier to put in after using the banding method.

I was even able to wear different styles longer  Tuesday through Saturday. See below!

Tuesday Hair I re twisted Monday night and the curls came out what I like to call "wild child" but I liked it, so I rocked it.

Wednesday Hair Yes, the curly puff is back by hump day but I added a little something new in the front by letting my bang out. My hair still had lots of volume and length.

Saturday and Sunday Hair I decided to go with my braided halo for the weekend. Because my hair was stretched previously, this made the halo braid easier to attempt.

Sunday is wash day for me so the halo braid made detangling super easy.

Bantu knot out

Hey Hey!

I decided to attempt a Bantu Knot style on my hair. It was not a complete fail because the curls came out better than I thought it would after discovering my hair was still a little damp. One thing I have learned is Bantu knots need longer than overnight to dry, at least for me. I decided to post it anyway. I am not ashamed to say I need some help with this style, so with that being said, can anyone suggest a different technique so that my curls come out more defined? Leave suggestions and comments below. I welcome any and all advice. I want to attempt it again but I think I could use some pointers first lol. I hope everyone’s new year is starting off great! Wash & Go! No Gel Needed!

Hey Hey!

I hope everyone’s weekend was magnificent! This week I decided to play around with my natural curls. I’d recently heard about a gentlemen by the name of Anthony Dickey. He owns the famous Hair Rules Salon in NYC. If any of you are subscribed to me on YouTube and have seen my earlier hair videos you know that one of my favorite YouTubers is Taren Guy! I love her. I’m a true fan. She started a series on her channel call the salon series and Anthony Dickey was featured. If you are interested click here to check out the video. The video is called True wash and go styling for kinkier hair types. If you are a natural hair gal with a kinkier hair type that just does not seem to adhere to the real wash and go method ( by this I actually mean wash and walk out the house) then you know the struggle. I have attempted the wash and go so many times I have lost count. It either took me too long to obtain the curl I wanted (by manipulating my curls) or it just puffed up in certain sections and other sections were curly or wavy.

I have always wanted to just walk out of the house right after jumping out of the shower with one curl pattern, but this never happened in all of my attempts. I was actually a little reluctant to try this time. Reluctance aside, I jumped right in. Now, I will say there were some expectations I was looking for that I didn’t get. Length, yes I know silly me. I guess I was not thinking as straight as I should have. Obviously the length your hair has while wet is not to be expected once dried. It’s okay though, because my curls looked absolutely amazing! I wore this wash and go for three whole days! Needless to say I was very excited!

A week and a half before posting this to YouTube I met a beautiful woman in one of my favorite children stores at an outlet mall.  Her hair was beautiful, she had magnificent length, the color was amazing and her hair looked so healthy. I was wearing my fresh wash and go, and she complimented my hair. The next thing she said is my hair just won’t do that. I have to do twist outs to get curl like that. I was so excited in the line and wanted to start telling her the how’s and why’s of this wash and go. There were other people in line so I couldn’t get into everything. I told her to google Anthony Dickey. I really hope she did and I hope she tried this method, because I can actually say I thought the same thing before. I realized that it’s not the products you use. It’s how the product is applied to your hair. The secret is basically making sure to not rub it through you hair but gently finger comb. That’s it! Even better I did my entire wash and go in the shower. The first time it took like 15 min in the shower ( I know not very quick right?) but the more I did it the less time it took. Now, I am down to literally 8 minutes to do my wash and go in the shower.

Okay, so I know I have just talked way too much in this week’s blog post, but that should tell you how excited I am! Ladies it’s possible, I am telling you. Please give this method a try and don’t get discouraged if it takes a little longer in the beginning. It is a process that needs to be repeated a couple of times before mastering. One thing I couldn’t deny was the curl definition, and it was such a bonus that I didn’t have to use gel to get this look. If you guys have followed my hair videos on YouTube, then you know gel is my biggest pet peeve. Check out the video below and as always Stay Inspired!
